It has been several weeks since my last post about the new cameraprices.com site. Well, I kow I said this like several weeks back but phase 1 is almost complete. It will launch in a matter of days. Right now we are getting all the bugs out and doing some final theme work. When the site launches, AU, UK, and US will be supported. In the following months we will add FR and DE as well.

Hi Folks,

I am just dropping a line to let you know that phase one of the new version of the site should be up by the following weekend May 22nd. You might not see much change on this version but underneath the user interface, of what you see, is some brand spanking new code, driven by Drupal, which I am very excited about. You should be too. Product pages will now display with prices, consumer ratings, and product specs (when specs are available). And, the category pages will load 30% faster. This may not mean much to most online users but webmasters know that speed is always an issue and good webmasters look for ways to keep page load times fast so website users won't get frustrated and leave the website.

New countries & community features coming soon!

New countries & community features coming soon!

There are two major changes coming to CameraPrices in a few weeks (and for some changes, months).

1) CameraPrices.com will change over to a community site where you and others can share / talk about cameras / gear, see sample photos from other camera users, have your own blog space, write reviews on anything photography related, win free gear, sell your used equipment (for free) and a list of other things.

2) More countries will be added, supporting the country language and prices as well as products and stores - just for the individual country.

When will all this take place? Good question. Within 30-60 days the new community site will rise up and hopefully prices for Australia will be online. By that time the site will support US, UK, and AU.

Once the community approves of the changes (and new community features are suggested and added) CameraPrices will then open to Germany or France. There is no decision yet which country will be first, of the two. All changes will be done (keeping fingers crossed) by end of Q3.

If you speak English and German or French, and you would like to donate some time for translating certain parts of the site, please contact me. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for using CameraPrices.com and being a part in its development.

For all of the techy folks: CameraPrices has moved to a new server (dual core - as the server admin tells me) as of early Monday morning (today). You might notice that pages with lots of data / images load faster. Recurring visitors will see less down time. The old host was apparently bought out by another company and the service begin to go down hill. My apologies for the quirkiness you have experienced over the last few months.

A warm welcome to my readers.

Camera Prices was started back in March 2005. I operate Buy Digicams - selling digital cameras and accessories. Late 2004 I wanted to build a shopping comparison site for photography related items - not just selling the goods. Thus, CameraPrices.com was born.

On November 03, 2004 our first child came into the world. As any parent can contest children bring many challenges - along with many joyful moments. Pictures have always been the source to capture a moment in time - to serve as a memory. And, like most new parents living in this high tech world we take lots of pictures of our daughter.
